<p>Mobipocket.com a lancé Mobipocket Creator pour créer des livres électroniques au format <a href="PRC_(fichier)" title="PRC (fichier)">PRC/MOBI</a> (dont il est le créateur). Les fichiers PRC/MOBI sont des fichiers HTML compilés, leur <a href="Extension_de_fichier" class="mw-redirect" title="Extension de fichier">extension de fichier</a> est .mobi.

</p><p>Après le rachat par Amazon, le développement actif de la plateforme, ainsi que le support logiciel et l'assistance aux utilisateurs, ont décliné. En décembre 2011, Amazon aurait officiellement informé des éditeurs qu'il mettait fin au support de Mobipocket<sup id="cite_ref-14" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-14"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>14<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup><sup class="reference cite_virgule">,</sup><sup id="cite_ref-15" class="reference"><a href="#cite_note-15"><span class="cite-bracket">[</span>15<span class="cite-bracket">]</span></a></sup>. Le statut des contenus protégés par la <a href="Gestion_des_droits_num%C3%A9riques" title="Gestion des droits numériques">gestion des droits numériques</a> (DRM) de Mobipocket achetés antérieurement par les utilisateurs resta incertain, car peu (voire aucun) lecteur d'e-books tiers ne prenait en charge ce système de DRM propriétaire.
